Few American deserters are dropped in the middle of special operation.
Somewhere in France convoy of prisoners is sent to military prison for their crimes - they all are about to be executed. But for them fate has prepared another story - the convoy is attacked by Germans. Lieutenant Yeager refused to open fire to civilians, Nick Colasanti for stealing, Berle for desertion, Tony for mutiny and Fred, who is simply called "Assassin" - they manage to escape from the truck and kill several Germans. Now they are free, they have weapons and... nowhere to go. They can’t return to Allied forces, because they will be killed, so they decide to move towards neutral Switzerland, where they could be safe. But the Swiss border is behind German lines and the deserters have to count on help of French Resistance. On the way they stumble upon the American intelligence officers, who are operating behind enemy lines. They are trying to steal parts of V-2 rocket, the secret weapon of Hitler. Yaeger begins to hesitate wheter the deserters should just continue their escape or stay and help the intelligence.
Typical Italian production filled with action, interesting characters, but lacking heavily in the realism department. We have here interesting plot with fast action scenes, but many parts of the script are just silly: like using modern motocross bike in 1944, like scene where the fuel tank of that bike is shot, but instead of blowing up it is just leaking and then the driver fills the hole with chewing gum, like many scenes where Germans are using hundreds of bullets and not hitting any of the main characters, while the protagonists need just few to kill several Germans, etc.
Overall is was a good project, but just like other Italian movies gone bad due to poor production decisions and the excessive eagerness to fill the movie with a lot of action.
