American officer is kidnapped by German intelligence in order to gain informations about the D Day.
Major Pike is American officer and one of the Overlords, which means that he has in-depth knowledge about upcoming D-Day landing in Normandy. When he arrives to Portugal German intelligence puts their plan to intercept him into force. He is abducted, drugged and taken to a specific location within area occupied by Germans. But what they have planned for him is not a simple interrogation in dark cellar - Major Walter Gerber, commanding officer of the operation came up with something that should be much more effective than typical methods. Pike wakes up in... American military hospital. He does not remember anything that happened after the abduction, but he is told that right now it is year 1950, not 1944. As the doctor told him Pike has problems with memory as the effect of trauma after the events in Portugal, that’s why he was treated in the hospital. Soon after he meets his wife, that he can’t recognize, and the doctors are trying their best to work on restoring his memory. For that purpose they try to make him remember the things he knew, and what would be better than details of the D-Day landings?
Interesting thriller, based on 1942 short story Beware of the Dog by Roald Dahl, that involves intriguing plan of German intelligence to gain the informations about upcoming landings in Normandy - they have created the illusion that the war is already over to gather informations from prisoners. 36 Hours has good script and good plot, although the creators decided to abandon the original story and build a new one, which in that case worked, but the film would be so much better if it would be based on the original story by Dahl - Beware of the Dog is more intriguing than movie, because in 36 Hours from the beginning we are told what the plan of Germans was and that the whole thing is just a hoax.
