The new captain on minesweeper USS Caine is obsessed with discipline up to the point when crew begins to doubt his mental stability.
A young and ambitious Ensign Keith from influential family receives orders that he will be serving on a small minesweeper USS Caine under the Captain DeVriess, who does not care about discipline and the crew knows it. He realizes that his ship plays only minor role in the war and simply adjusted his mind to that reality. But Keith feels he can do better than that and has high hopes when DeVriess is replaced by Captain Queeg. Queeg is completely different - for him the discipline is everything and soon the crew finds out that he is in fact obsessed with discipline. During the naval exercise he makes a mistake during disciplining the officers, which maked the crew doubt his skills. Since he refuses to accept that it was his mistake the crew begins to doubt his integrity as well. But the further events will make them doubt his mental stability, which during the battle could be fatal.
Classic war movie with great performance from Humphrey Bogart and tense atmosphere aboard USS Caine that leads to a court martial. Great script, great cast and a lot of quite realistic scenes aboard the Caine.
