Yugoslav Wars war movies

Series of conflicts triggered by the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991. The Yugoslavia as a single country was formed in 1918, after the World War 1 ended. It was a artificial country formed out of several prior independent countries (Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia) that later expanded by annexing Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro. During the World War 2 the religious and political differences between the nations within Yugoslavia have emerged - the Croatian militia men Ustase were supporting the Nazi government and helped German invaders in fight against Yugoslavian partisans. This division within the nation lasted through the war. After World War 2 Josip Broz Tito, the leader of partisans kept the country together under the influence from Soviet Union, but when the thread of Soviet intervention disappeared together with the Soviet Union the discord came back with the devastating effects - all the republics tried to separate from the central government in Belgrade resulting in series of conflicts that led them to independence, but also to a chaos and huge numbers of civilians killed or suffered from the militia forces. Until this day the war criminals from Yugoslav Wars are wanted by the international law enforcement.

Srebrenica massacre
11 July 1995

The killing of over 8000 Bosnian Muslims, mainly men and boys, in and around the town of Srebrenica during the Bosnian War (part of the Yugoslav War in 1990s). The killing was perpetrated by units of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) under the command of General Ratko Mladic. Amongst the Serbian forces also were foreign volunteers fighting in paramilitary forces. Ratko Mladic was arrested in 2011...
