German tank destroyer built on same concept as Panzerjaeger I - open top chassis with high velocity gun mounted on top. In 1941 Panzerjaeger I were not enough to deal with Soviet medium and heavy tanks, so Wehrmach needed a new line of tank destroyers. Marders were built on chassis of French Lorraine 37L supply tanks that were acquired after invasion in 1940. High velocity 75mm guns were installed on them that would be able to deal with T-34s and KV-1s, but poor protection soon proved to be an important flaw on first line of fights, so Marder I were retreated from Eastern Front and sent to France to be included in defence against upcoming Allied invasion.
