Alexander III of Macedon (also known as Alexander the Great) became the king of Macedonians after his father Philip II was assassinated by his bodyguard. Alexander wanted to takeover two of his father’s projects - unify the Greek city-states and use their military power to attack the Persian empire that for centuries was the biggest threat for mainland Greece. Using his military talents he managed to create League of Corinth, a unity of Greek city-states and in 334 BC he set out for the Asia.
