Convoy PQ 17 was an Allied Arctic convoy, which set on 27th June 1942, from Iceland to Arkhangelsk. Due to German intelligence intercepting signals, the U-Boats, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine managed to intercept the convoy. The decision was made to disperse PQ 17 and send the escort to search for possible German raiders approaching from the west, which left the merchant ships completely helpless in the face of an enemy.
The freighters were attacked by German bombers and submarines. Out of 35 ships which set out from Iceland, only 11 reached the destination, delivering less than a third of the supplies.

In the summer of 1942, the arctic convoy PQ-17 sets out towards the Arkhangelsk with vital war supplies. When U-Boats attack, the convoy has to split and a Norwegian crew of a merchant ship has to carry on without any support.
