The Tank (2026, Germany)

Original / alternative title: Der Tiger

The Tiger tank crew is sent on a mission to retrieve an important officer from the area soon to be taken over by the Red Army.
After the fall of Stalingrad, a single Tiger tank is covering the retreat of German forces through a long bridge. Despite several Soviet tanks approaching, Lieutenant Gerkens stands the ground until the very last moment, to give the troops a chance to clear the bridge before it will be blown up. However, after that successful effort the crew cannot rest yet, they are given yet another mission, this time of a more subtle kind. A high-rank officer, von Hardenburg, who was in charge of preparing the retreat plans, is stuck somewhere between the front lines, Gerkens and his crew are sent to locate that officer and bring him back to safety before the Soviets can catch him. Operation Labyrinth, as their mission is called, sounds like a really stupid plan - the last thing that can be said about Tiger tanks is that they are suitable for subtle activities, but on the other hand, if any vehicle can survive operating alone, close to the enemy lines, is the heavily armoured Tiger.
A German war movie with a plot somewhere between Fury and Saving Private Ryan, but unlike Hollywood productions, this is not a hero movie, it is a down-to-earth story about duty and the pointlessness of the war. It is an adventure movie, without the adventure, the redemption without redemption and a cold look at what war does to people involved. It is not a war movie that would suit everyone’s taste, but it is an interesting look at World War 2 and wars in general.
