World War IIAfter defeat in the Battle of the Kasserine Pass General Patton was appointed the head of U.S. II Corps and Battle of the El Guettar was the first effect of that change. Patton restored the morale in the troops and lead them to the attack. The outcome of the battle was inconclusive - British on the Mareth Line and Americans near El Guettar pushed back Rommel, but Desert Fox again did not let them catch him in a trap. Nevertheless it was the first time the Americans could keep up with the Afrika Korps in North Africa.
