Second game set in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and in the same reality as Shadow of Chernobyl, but taking place before the events from the first game. We start as a mercenary that enters the Zone divided between the factions fighting for control over the area. The whole Zone is a terrain of constant fights between them and player has to find the way to survive within the circumstances and also find the stalker known as Fang. The clash between Freedom and Duty factions is not only military, but also philisophical - one side thinks that the Zone should be open for all the people to gain the advantage of it, the other side see the Zone as a danger to human kind that should be destroyed.

The games is more of a first-person shooter than survival game comparing to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. This time the whole terrain is filled with people, mutants play less important part in the plot, all the undergrounds labs are no longer available, the artifacts have little importance... In a way this is the step back not only in time, but also in the atmosphere and style - now the plot and missions are almost completely straight forward battles between factions and no longer have the mysterious element that made Shadow of Chernobyl so great. Still there are few new locations (like really eerie Red Forrest), few new aspects to the game (like emissions), but it wasn?t enough to reach the level of the first game.
