S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (2010)

Third game about the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and the area changed by the nuclear radiation. This time player enters the Zone as a government agent on a mission to learn the fate of soldiers that crashed within the Zone. The helicopters that were carrying them crashed somewhere within the area and the agent is given the mission to infiltrate the Zone and find out the reasons behind the crash. There are important changes comparing to previous games - the surroundings have been changed, the plot is completely different, the rules within Zone are different. This time we approach Pripyat from different side with two big areas filled with all the enemies known from previous games - the factions, mercenaries, bandits and mutants. The main big change is the location of anomalies - instead of being spread all over the area they are grouped in single large anomalies of given kind. This makes the whole area much more easy to travel through and in a way loses the atmosphere from previous games. The emissions are present (just like Clear Sky) and they are the main danger in the open space, but there are warning signals that give the time to hide. The story is different and the way to reach the goal is different - there are many side missions that bring the character closer to resolving the main plot.

Overall it is game somewhere between the Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky with main point being shooting skills rather than the planning, atmosphere and style of the first game. The are is large and the player is free to wander around it, but the dangers are too planned, all the locations you visit only once and don’t have to return there ever again, the enemies are not as dangerous as in previous games and even the underground locations are rather safe and don’t have the eerie feeling.
