Perfect General is turn-based strategy game with scenarios taking place somewhere between World War 2 and modern times (Bazookas suggest at least World War 2, lack of rockets and air support suggest pre-1980s). In series of scenarios we take part in the conflict between red and blue side. First step is recruitment of the units according to available points (f.e. infantry is 1 point, mobile artillery is 14 points, etc) and in some scenarios (in which our forces land on the enemy area) we can be also limited by the number of units we can deploy at once due to limited space in the landing zones.

The game puts emphasis on mobile units (tanks, APCs, mobile artillery) and the speed of the operation, but also the artillery support plays an important part. There are mobile artillery units, light and heavy static units, but their indirect fire can be not 100% accurate, this combined with the fact that the artillery fire round is not straight after the targeting, means that you have assume that some areas are not a great place to send your units when you expect artillery fire. Each hex that is bombarded by artillery also generates shrapnels on hexes that are next to it. Heavy artillery also can fire in the barrage mode, which targets specific hex as main target, but also causes damages to all neighbour hexes.

Overall an interesting strategy game that concentrates on the mobile and armoured units in series of scenarios on different maps. Some of the units are almost useless (like infantry that is only good to keep in cities to gain the points), the artillery does a lot of damage, so you have to concentrate mostly on the support fire, while tanks are struggling to be as useful as you might expect it.
