Soviet major offensive on the Eastern Front. The operation took it’s name from 19th century Georgian Prince Pyotr Bagration. Operation Bagration aimed to push Germans out of Belarus and eastern part of Poland. Hitler was expecting the Soviet push on the southern part of the front and relocated most of his forces towards Ukraine. First skirmishes took place on 22 June, but the offensive started with massive bombardment on 23 June followed by fast assault of the armoured forces. Soviets with ease broke through the German lines and were able to encircle whole units. Soviet Army used astonishing number of people in this operation - around 2 million.
