In times before Kingdom of Poland the pagan tribes of Polans were under constant attacks from the neighbours (Christian Germany and Czech) or fighting with each other. The Piast dynasty begun to merge the lands in more organized and united nation, but still as pagans they were fighting for survival. The first King of Poland Mieszko I acquired the baptism due to marriage with Czech princess, which took away the excuse for German nobles to raid the lands.
