During Pacific patrol submarine USS Seahawk is recalled to Pearl Harbor, where new orders await the crew. Only the crew, because the captain of the sub is replaced by his second in command that crew does not really trust.
During Pacific patrol submarine USS Seahawk spots a Japanese destroyer and attack the enemy, but only third of the torpedoes fired reaches its target. Commander Stoker contacts the base for further orders since they are low on ammo and to his surprise instead of resupply point coordinates they are ordered to return to Pearl Harbor. Stoker informs his second in command, Commander Turner, that he will not be recommending him to be given his own command, mostly because he lacks the interpersonal skills and that would build the bond between him and the crew. Turner is disappointed, but accepts the evaluation. After returning to base Stoker is informed that Seahawk will leave in the morning on a mission to locate about 30 Japanese warships that are not accounted for by US intelligence. But there is one more thing - submarine will leave without Stoker, who is assigned to desk job in headquarters and Turner will take over the command of Seahawk. While Turner follows the orders and tries to find the Japanese warships the crew grows more and more disgruntled that they do not attack any targets.
American war movie, one of many independent low-budget productions of 1950s and 1960s that had very basic sets, very basic props and very simple scripts. Submarine Seahawk has all the features of such productions with only few, almost amateurish, sets, props that are almost laughable (like torpedo being loaded by crewmen within few seconds using only their hands) and script that lacks any depth. Nevertheless it is not completely worthless, it’s just very cheap and it shows. The cast did their best (at least some of them), the action scenes are not that bad, but could use some more work and the whole story could use some realism.
