Spanish soldier in Iraq can’t remember what happened after he was wounded, but he has doubts about the official version of events.
During a daytime patrol in one of the provinces of Iraq Spanish column of military cars is hit by a improvised roadside bomb. Pablo and Diego survived the explosion, but they have to leave their car and run away from the attacking Iraqi resistance fighters. They find refuge in the secluded house hidden behind the dunes. Inside they stumble upon an Iraqi family and one of the residents attack Pablo. Heavily wounded he loses consciousness after attack and is taken to the military hospital. After recovery Pablo is sent back to Spain, where he is welcomed as a hero. Even though physically he is more or less cured he still has problems with his memory - he can’t remember anything that happened in that house after the attack. He is listed to receive a medal for bravery, but doesn’t know what for. He reads in the papers that after the ambush he and Diego killed a group of terrorists. Pablo tries to find out what exactly happened in Iraq and soon realizes that someone tries to hide something from him.
An unusual film for Spanish cinematography - a war movie that takes place in present times. Spanish forces in Iraq were present for short time during and after the Iraq War, so they don’t have much stories to tell, especially since after World War 2 they never took part in any other military operations abroad. The story told in Invader is pure fiction, and it is mixture of war movie, political thriller and action drama, which worked pretty well - don’t expect much from it and you won’t be disappointed.
