During World War 2 British and German aircrews have to work together in order to survive stranded in the Norwegian wilderness in the middle of winter.
During a patrol over Norway British Blackburn Skua plane attacked the German Heinkel He 111 bomber that later crashed into the ground. Damaged Skua also didn’t make it back to base and crash landed on the frozen lake. The winter conditions put crews of both airplanes into deadly danger - without place to hide and with very limited supplies they are stranded in the middle of nowhere. Soon the Germans discover a hunters hut, which could be their salvation, but when British crew arrives the situation gets complicated. Now the survivors from both planes, despite the lack of trust to each other, has to work together to survive. But for German officer it is important to have the upper hand and since the German crew has their pistols, he takes the British prisoners. Soon he discovers it is more of a burden than solution, because now it is up to him to provide the prisoners of war with food and shelter.
Film based on true story of British and German pilots that joined their forces to survive in the Norwegian wilderness in the middle of winter. It is one of the movies that shows how basic human instincts can put the war and politics aside when it comes to a simple matter of survival. With only few historical inaccuracies (f.e. Smith tells the story that he was to take a barmaid on a date the day their plane have crashed, but Blackburn Skuas were carrier based aircrafts, so it’s unlikely that he would be back from patrol the same day) this film is interesting offer, but made with limited budget and plot restricted by the real events it can hardly compete with top war movies.
