1970-01-01Clumsy private that jinx his whole unit stumbles upon a castle with cellar full of wine and also accidentally arrests the German general that is hiding there from Soviet Army.
In 1945 Soviet and Polish forces are pushing the Germans from Poland. Private Waclaw Orzeszko is his company jinx, so when they have the chance to send him away they are not gonna waste it. They put him in the car with driver and sent him to the rear as representative for party meeting. On the way Orzeszko and driver reach the point of the road where German artillery is putting heavy bombardment, so Soviet guard is refusing to let them pass. But since they know better than some woman they drove on anyway and were hit by a shell. Orzeszko returns to his unit only to find that no one is happy to see him back so soon.
He wanders off and gets to the nearby castle, where as the rumour has it, there is a cellar full of wine barrels. Unfortunately the Soviet soldiers warn him that the cellar is guarded and soon in painful way Orzeszko finds out that the guard is the same woman, Marusia, that tried to stop him on the road. While they are arguing German soldiers, lead by General von Falkenberg, sneak int the castle hoping to hide from the Russians. By accident Orzeszko and Marusia arrest the general. When Germans noticed the disappearance of general they started to search the castle, but at the same time Orzeszko’s company arrives to the castle looking for him.
Polish comedy about clumsy and unlucky private, who by accident becomes a hero. Of course just like most of comedies the realism or historical accuracy factors for that film are very low, but overall it is quite entertaining movie with great cast and good script. Plus it was filmed in amazing Czocha Castle that adds a lot to the scenery.
