M3 Lee

M3 Lee

M3 Lee was a tank designed in 1930s in United States based on doctrine that tanks should serve as a support for infantry, not the other way round. That’s why, just like most of the French tanks of the same era, it was armed with heavy gun mounted inside the hull that had very limited traverse. This construction was giving a lot of firepower, but made the whole silhouette of tank very high and the chances of survival tank battle very limited. But with lack of alternative M3 Lee were wdiely used during the war in North Africa by American and British armies (the British version was called M3 Grant), some of them were sent to Soviet Union as part of Lend-Lease program.
