Hotchkiss H35

Hotchkiss H35

French light tank based on a concepts from World War I was already obsolete on verge of World War 2 - they had very thick armor, but at the same time they were slow, hard to manouver and their guns were designed to support the infantry and not fight with other tanks. Poland had small number of H35 and R35 during the German invasion in September 1939, but the were all lost in the battles without much success. During the invasion of France in 1940 they were too sluggish and had insufficient fire power to stop the Germans. The obsolete doctrine used by French officers often made the slow tanks useless on battlefield in the era of Blitzkrieg that Germans have used. The H35 captured by Germans were used in the operations against insurgents.
