AS.51 Horsa

AS.51 Horsa

Airspeed AS.51 Horsa was a British glider developed for carrying troops and light equipment (like jeep or gun) especially for the paratroopers and the air assault forces. During World War 2 it was used during the D-Day landings (and auxiliary operations like ), later in Operation Market-Garden. Due to light construction (made completely of wood) and high manoeuvrability it was perfect for surprising actions where the usual drop of paratroopers would gather too much attention of the enemy (due to engine noise).
