It was an important battle between the Danish-backed former Swedish King Sverker of Sweden and Prince Eric. Danish King Valdemar the Victorious provided Sverker with a large army (around 12,000 to 18,000 warriors). The defending Swedish forces were much smaller - between 7,000 and 10,000. According to some sources Swedes took advantage of being better prepared for the winter conditions, in which the battle took place, and overcome the advantage in numbers of the enemy. The Swedes won and Sverker fled to Denmark, two years later he died in Battle of Gestilren.
